Profile

The eldest of the Ilmar boys of Vellin: big, loud, always hungry, and the best scythe in the valley at sixteen. He swore on the same Oath Day as the avatar, a few minutes before them, and has been cheerful about it ever since. The only thing that makes him go quiet is the grey squares spreading through his family's wheat in the fields of Ambrel.

Oath Tale

The Grey Square

Arvel finds a field mouse standing still in mid-run in the grey patch of his family's wheat, and refuses to cut that square until he understands why.
